HEART-STRING HARMONIES: Pemberley

This Floridian band owes much of its sweet ‘n’ tart sound to the interplay of crunchy guitars and wistful synths with the piquant harmonies of its dueling Rachels. Singers Rachel Margaret and Rachel Lyn combine their girlish coos into dreamily tuneful vocal lines that are, at once, ethereal and pleasingly tart, layering their feminine voices over harder-edged instrumentation like echo-laden guitars and muscular drums. Like the Cardigans, there is an icy effervescence to Pemberley, who can sound either playfully pop or bittersweet and bruised, depending on the circumstances in which their bright, emotive harmonies are placed.
